some manga reccomendations

Hello again, this time I would like to three recommendations with you. These titles are ideal to snuggle in bed or in a comfy chair with a cup of tea or a beer if that’s more your thing. I don’t claim these comics are the next Attack on Titan, but I very much enjoyed all of them so I hope you will too.

Noise (Tetsuya Tsutsui)

fig

First title I want to show you is a detective manga. I originally thought it was a post-apocalyptic manga about a farmer that is trying to mend his family bonds when I saw the cover and read the synopsis. I don’t think I could’ve been more wrong about what the story was actually about, but I actually really enjoyed it even despite that (Still want to read the original concept from my head lol).

The story starts with a report about the black figs and how they’re saving a small town of Shishikari and providing it with popularity and funding. Then we get to see two friends, Izumi Keita and Tanabe Jun, bickering while setting up a swing on a branch, when they spot a man eating the local specialty, said black figs he got from a food stand run on a honor system. They stand-offishly approach him and the man reveals he’s looking for work and saw their recruitment flyer. At this point the most fun or the most immersion breaking part of the storytelling, depending on how you think of it, starts; Keita reveals that his food stand has a honesty box made by his daughter which rings a bell every time someone drops money into it. This leads Keita deepens his suspicion of this man. The conversation continues, the stranger hands him his drivers licence and a gift of a suspiciosus bag of poorly made deer jerky. They talk about it when Jun pulls a trick with his phone to make the stranger think he’s showing Keita a translation on his phone while actually telling him to send the stranger away.

I’m not gonna spoil it more, but it’s really jarring when the author pulls the most 500 iq twists out of his ass (EVERYBODY KNOWS ABOUT THE DRIVERS LICENCE TRICK!). You’re either going to laugh or scream a lot at this manga, I did the former and enjoyed it very much, because almost everything I thought would happen, would turn out the exact opposite way. I really recommend this manga, it’s fresh, short (completed in 23 ch.) and a great time to spend an afternoon or evening.

I’m being raised by villains

villainess

This title was recommended to me by my friend when I was lying in bed sick and wanted a manhwa to take my mind of my stomachache. And I probably couldn’t have chosen a cuter manhwa if i tried.

It is about a girl who’s family doesn’t care about her. She gets isekai’d to an otome game as a villainess and an illegitimate daughter of a duke. But oh oh, she’s also a shape shifting lizard? Because of that she fears that the she’ll be kicked out of the house and family. When its time for her grandfather/leader of the family to judge the relatives and employees about what they’re planning to do the next year she’s supposed to accidentaly reveal that she is a shapeshifter, which doesn’t happen the way she remembers… The whole way through the manhwa i felt the wholesomeness throughout my whole body and it definitely made my day better. Even if you think the hook sounds generic, give please give this heartwarming story a chance.

Shiroyama to Mita-san

m16

I don’t even remember how i found this, if it was on reddit or the new section of mangadex, but I definitely underestimated it.

It started almost like a fairy tale. A guy called Shiroyama was riding his bike when he saw a man drowning in a rice field(?), so obviously he helps him and calls an ambulance. For his selfless deed he’s celebrated as a local hero. And it turns out that the man he rescued was a famous CEO of a local company. When Shiroyama comes to visit him in the hospital, he asks Shiroyama to be a boyfriend for his weird granddaughter, Mita-san. They go bowling and eventually decide to start dating. From then on follow their quirky funny antics and interactions until they reach the goal of moving to Tokyo.

The whole manga is very funny and although some jokes land flat for me, most of them had me in stitches. It concluded before I could finish this post (100 ch.) and I’m kinda sad it ended so soon. Read the first chapter, it is long, but prepares you for the kind of humor the manga has, so if you don’t like it after that, you can drop it.

This was harder to write than I thought, although kind of fun. Idk if I’ll do more of these in the future, probably if I read more interesting stuff I want to share. Also since the last post the most unexpected thing has happened, Tachiyomi shut down after like 4 years which I didn’t expect. So I will be making a revised guide for Mihon which has since replaced it. Most of the stuff remains the same but some things need to be updated, mainly the sources.

See you next post!
